On your mark. Get set. Mush!

Local dogs and owners, as well as several from other states, participated in the second annual Music City Dryland Sled Dog Challenge Saturday morning at the Gateway Trailhead of the Murfreesboro Greenway System.

A dryland sled dog race is just like the winter sled dog races held in the northern regions of the country except the mushers utilize “dog-sleds-on-wheels” or rigs.

While mainly Huskies were entered, there were other breeds, including mixes, as well. All breeds were welcome.

“It’s good social time for the dogs as well as their owners,” said Brandon Collins, a race spectator from Murfreesboro. “It’s cool to see the (license) plates from all the different states.”

In fact, dryland mushing teams traveled from Georgia, Kentucky and Virginia to participate in races.
